Why the Singapore International Airport is the Best in the World

We had heard the hype about the Singapore International Airport. We knew that people loved having a Singapore Airport layover, but we didn’t quite believe what everyone already knew. Widely considered the best international airport in the world, we were excited to check it out. I mean all international airports are pretty nice, so how could a Singapore Airport layover really be that much better?

When we landed, we were sent directly to Terminal 2. We were a little dismayed at having a whopping 10 hour Singapore Airport layover overnight. I mean if it had been during the day we could have gone out and explored the city..but overnight? There was no way this airport was going to be nice enough to entertain us and keep us comfortable.

We were so wrong! The Singapore Airport does have all the typical airport fares such as duty free shopping and overpriced restaurants. But it has so much more too.

They even had a Garrett’s popcorn!

We started to explore a bit and found video game areas, virtual dart boards, giant mega movie screens playing great movies, and foot massage chairs. The best part though was the giant rooftop sunflower garden that was so peaceful. There were also these giant “experience areas” that had news feeds from all different countries and giant comfy chairs.

Plus the massive green spaces! There were koi ponds with actual fish, big orchid gardens, and gorgeous glass art sculptures. It was so fun to wander around and take it all in.

There is free Wi-Fi throughout the entire airport. If you don’t have SMS capabilities on your phone, then head to the information desk and the people there will give you a slip. There is printing available too in the airport, as well as passport photos and other random services.

Everything in the airport was free too! I thought that for each attraction you might have to pay, but nope. Just enjoy yourself, explore, and find what makes you pass the time in the best way.

The food court that we went to was fantastic. You order on these giant touch screens, so the language barrier ain’t no thing. Each food item has a large picture and translation options, so it was a piece of cake. The staff then makes your food and calls your number. Plus…it was so good and so cheap! Our airport meal for our Singapore Airport layover was 1/3 of the cost of the meal in the Bali airport, and so much better tasting and higher quality.

There are multiple hotels and lounge areas that will cost you money, but a couple of the lounges had bottomless alcohol deals and sleeping areas. Speaking of sleeping, if you’re staying overnight be sure to claim your space early! We sort of bungled that and didn’t get the best sleeping spot, but there were tons of options if we had planned ahead.

Overall, a Singapore Airport layover is probably the best layover you can ask for. If you are there during the day, the Singapore Airport offers free city tours, and I would definitely take them up on that! Even at night though, we were extremely entertained the entire stay. The staff was friendly, the airport was clean, and it was the best layover I’ve ever had.

If you want to explore the other terminals too, each is fantastic! We were time limited due to wanting to sleep but from what I’ve read on the Singapore Airport website, each one is as entertaining as Terminal 2 that we explored.
